How to get USDC (buy, receive, or bridge)

You understand what USDC is and you have a wallet. Getting actual digital dollars into it happens one of three ways.

Route one: buy it on an exchange

The beginner-standard path: create an account at a major regulated exchange — Coinbase or Kraken, both, notably, in the Arc ecosystem — complete identity verification, link a bank account, and buy USDC one-for-one with dollars, minus a small fee. Then withdraw it to your own wallet address, the step newcomers skip. Money on an exchange is an IOU from a company; money in your wallet is yours. When withdrawing you will pick a network: once Arc mainnet is live and your exchange supports it, withdrawing directly to Arc is the clean path; until then, withdrawing to another network and bridging works.

Route two: receive it

If someone pays you — an employer, a client, a friend — they simply send USDC to your address. You share the address, which is public by design, they send, and it arrives in seconds. Nothing to sign up for. This is how most people will actually first touch USDC once paying in it is normal.

Route three: [bridge](/learn/first-bridge) it to Arc

USDC you hold on another network — Ethereum, Base, Solana — moves to Arc through Circle's own transfer protocol, CCTP. The USDC is destroyed on the source chain and re-created natively on Arc, so nothing is wrapped or IOU-like. The thing to remember is that you pay the source chain's fee, which is the expensive part of the trip; Arc's side costs a fraction of a cent.
