Arc Mainnet, T-minus 3: when the customer is a machine

We are unpacking the use case that sounds like science fiction and is quietly becoming procurement.
What it means
The concrete version, stripped of buzzwords: AI agents increasingly perform multi-step work — research, booking, purchasing, coordinating with other services — and the missing primitive is payment — the same problem the sending checklist solves for humans. Agents cannot open bank accounts or pass card-fraud checks designed for humans; what they can do is hold a wallet and transact on programmable rails.
For that customer, Arc's design choices read like a spec sheet: fees at $0.004 make paying per API call or per task economical, the micropayment case card networks never cracked; sub-second finality matches machine tempo, because an agent cannot wait days for settlement inside a task; and dollar-denominated everything means an agent's budget is a number its operator understands. Emerging standards for agent payments — the x402 pattern, HTTP's dormant Payment Required status finally employed — point the same direction: services priced per request, paid in stablecoins, no human checkout in the loop.
Our labelled read on maturity: this is the earliest of Arc's six use cases — real demand is nascent, and 2026's agent commerce is measured in experiments, not corridors, and none of it implies an ARC token. But it is also the one where Arc has the least competition from the legacy system, because there is no legacy system for machine-to-machine dollar payments. Trust infrastructure for agent counterparties — how an agent verifies what it is buying or escrows what it is owed — is a genuinely open build space worth watching from day one.
